Purpose and Impact
The Darr Family Foundation (DFF) understands that communities become stronger and more vibrant places to live when everyone has access to the resources they need to maximize their potential and is committed to providing financial resources to agencies working in areas that align with the mission and vision of the foundation.
Due to recent long-term investments made in the local education system to further the mission of the Foundation, the Foundation is currently not accepting unsolicited proposals. Thank you for your continued impactful work in our community.
AGRICULTURE EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP WITH SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY
In 2019, the Darr Family Foundation, in partnership with William H. Darr, announced a $6.5 million gift to Missouri State University to build a small animal education facility on the Darr College of Agriculture campus as well as the AgAcademy, an agricultural science-based magnet school, for Springfield Public Schools 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Construction on the AgAcademy was completed in April 2022 and celebrated with a VIP reception with Governor Mike Parson. Students began experiential learning at the AgAcademy in May 2022, and 100 4th and 5th graders will begin attending full-time in August 2022. For more information, contact Heather Zoromski at 417-888-1495 or HERE. A huge thanks to local media partners for their great coverage of this groundbreaking project.

In order to truly integrate agriculture curriculum into Springfield Public Schools, in 2019, the Darr Family Foundation also awarded $500,000 to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools to fund the “Farm 2 School” program which will run in tandem with the AgAcademy and provide district-wide agriculture education throughout all age groups.
In 2024, Heather was invited to present at the “Hall of Outsized Impact Film Festival” at the Exponent Philanthropy Conference in Austin, Texas. She created the video below to showcase what can happen when legacy and mission collide into something incredible.
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND LITERACY
In 2018, the Board of Directors of the Darr Family Foundation allocated 60% of annual funding to an Early Childhood Education and Literacy Initiative that will effectively improve kindergarten readiness and literacy skills in Springfield children ages birth through third grade. On January 5, 2018, in partnership with Community Foundation of the Ozarks and the Musgrave Foundation, a $1,010,000 award was presented to Community Partnership of the Ozarks. Through their Every Child Promise initiative, they will be working to increase access to quality preschool for under-resourced families, provide training for educators in the “Conscious Discipline” methodology, and encourage parents to have their children screened for developmental milestones. This program will impact over 2,000 children in the Springfield community over the next five years. For more information regarding this initiative, please contact Heather Zoromski at 417-888-1495 or HERE. A special thanks to local media partners for providing coverage for this exciting endeavor. As the initiative wrapped up in 2023, a final report was compiled to document the successes and challenges of the program. You can view that document HERE.
